Multi-CTF Pug Night!

Postby InfamousRaider » Tue Dec 13, 2011 2:32 pm

It rarely happens that we have a Multi-CTF pug in #iPug. Most players just want to pug whatever will fill first and since it takes more players to start a Multi-CTF pug they rarely get started. I propose that we set up an official Multi-CTF pug time so that any player who is interested in play Multi-CTF can know when to show up and any other casual puggers on at the time can fill in the remaining spots.

Multi-CTF is very strategic but most players either have no idea whats going on or treat it like a DM fest where EVERYONE is their enemy. If we get some regular pugs in players will start to pick up on the strategy and pugs will become more competitive and enjoyable. If this does end up catchin on I will write up a beginners guide to Multi-CTF so that players can more quickly get a feel for how to play.

Right now I propose that we make 7pm EST on weekdays the Multi-CTF pug time (early enough for euros and late enough for people with regular working hours). Who would show up semi-regularly to try an pug Multi-CTF at this time? Any suggestions on the time or anything else?

I think that we've been averaging about one a week. I like your idea since I enjoy MCTF. There are however a few problems.

1) 4 teams, 2 maps.. sometimes you have 3 teams losing both maps in a pug. No one likes losing and people don't appreciate how difficult it is to win.

2) MCTF should be "fun", it's not nearly as competitive as 5v5 iCTF however some people take it just as seriously.

3) Quite a few players wouldn't understand strat if it smacked them in the face. Some people just frag instead of targeting specific kills/teams. I'm guilty of this sometimes.

4) Map variety. People always resort back to the same Crokx or TestRoom maps which are good but they get a bit repetitive. Me and n0b put roughly 30-40 maps on the server. A few are garbage but we filtered many out. It would be nice to try some new maps every once in awhile.

You can count me in for a MCTF pug every night between 6-9pm, however I can't guarantee 7pm every day.

I realize that not everyone can commit to a time every night but if we have a goal that everyone knows about and enough interested people I think we can get 3 or 4 pugs per week. It wont take long for players to learn strategy, what we need is some consistency.

I suggest teaching people how to play Multi-CTF first.
Now I don't know if people have learned how to yet, since I haven't played mctf since right when it came back, but from what I remember, people had no clue how to play, which took away from me wanting to play. Now it wasn't just minor gameplay mistakes, it was doing things like going to a teams base and dming them for fun, even though you already have the capped out.. And other problems along those lines.

Do people know how to play?

I will play this weekend. The only thing is I got a new computer, and my mouse will not fit lol. So I'm waiting for an adapter. It hasn't been here for 5 days and thats very unusual for newegg. I do hope I get in tomorrow. If I don't oh well. Just don't pick me if I don't get the adapter because I suck with this new mouse

Nah. I love my hp mouse. I got it in the box with my old pc. Even though the scroll doesnt work, its always reliable. We have 6-7 mouses in this house. And their too big for my hand :\ .

I looked up on google "Whats the best gaming mouse"

130 dollars for a mouse? And you don't even get to try it lol. I wish there was a store where you could try mouses. Or could just "borrow" one and see if you like it for a month :/
