Enforcing A "Nomic" Rule?

Postby Serenity » Sat Aug 25, 2012 12:05 am

I couldn't see a rule mentioned specifically about microphones other than #1 which states you don't need one however, could it be possible to make a rule (I'm sure we've had it before) stating that you must have "NOMIC" or similar in your nickname prior to being picked for a PUG? The amount of games recently where 2-4 players (yes, even 4) have had no mic and I had no clue when picking the players, it's getting silly.
Perhaps it was because of the introduction of NewNet and we had a lot of foreign/new players to iPug, who knows, but regardless no mic is another way of killing the PUG for me if it's like "Oh surprise, I have no mic, there goes your tactic of putting me on defence" therefore throwing my whole team selection off.

This is where it turns out I'm being totally blind and there is such a rule already and look like an idiot.

Not sure if this is possible but if spydee ever upgrades the bot, could it have something like .j ictf nm and then in the list, you would display as 1) PACO (nm) 2) yada yada.

it's easy enough to simply have nomic in your name if you're going to play without talking.. but do as you wish there PACO. I think krm was more referring to having a specific rule in place if you're going to nomic as opposed to simply having a line stating you need to be on ts

I could see how some that play D almost all the time (unrealshots, convict, sojin, etc) could be doing it just so they can do something else. Defending every single map every single day does get old, contrary to popular belief. I personally don't mind playing D but I also don't have to do it every map...my comms actually improve by about 50% when I'm playing D, as does my rage factor

I am guilty of not using a mic on occasion. Sometimes circumstances dictate that you can't use one. I have a wife that gets up at 5 AM and works 12 hours shifts at the ER at hospital, and I have a 2 year old. My office loft is near the bedrooms, so in effort to not wake my family, I don't use a mic if it's later on at night. That's just me.

I've been in PUG's where just because weve only had 2 or 3 on TS with mic, i've had to defend by default, its like punishment for having a mic

I completely understand why some people need to nomic, i too have to be really quiet on TS when it gets late at night but then there is other people who just dont seem to have an excuse and it does kill the PUG sometimes... its a tough situation by no means do we want to stop people playing if they dont have a mic for a good reason.

I remember when my first choice pick was a nomic, pretty much doomed from the start...

nomic in the irc nick is a must surely, pretty easily done

Defending should not be seen as some form of punishment for having a mic. Most people who are selected as defenders are those who can hold their own (and then some) in the frag department and/or those who know how to play CTF as part of a squad.

Only recently has defending become some form of a dunce hat, which is saddening. It has kind of become a lost art in today's kill-everything-if-on-offense fragfest gameplay.

All the anchor D's rarely get to play O. Even poor pantera has only recently had the chance to play some offense.

Some pugs are boring to good D players, so they want to play O. D is pure repetition: stand here, shoot people, check here, there, push up, repeat. On the other side, offense is much more attractive as you have to battle your way to the flag on almost every map, fighting respawns and people randomly shooting at you, running flags, etc. MuchMore action.

After playing D for years, not everyone can switch over to play good offense, but it's just more fun.

Mic up, captain up and assign positions. if people sabo, they get banned.

Enforce a nomic rule where you must have it in your name if you won't be using a mic. Also enforce a nomic rule where if you are nomic, you MUST have and use keybinds. If people with nomic start to be put on defense, they will be less likely to use nomic to get out of playing defense.

I'm no longer playing D anymore, i wanna try playing O a bit more so I can actually be good or at least decent at both. Defense has been my duty since forever man, i need a brake there's plenty of other D players kthxbai.
