10 MINUTE RULE!

Postby death4of4 » Mon Sep 24, 2012 7:02 pm

It seems more and more these days pugs are taking way too long to start once teams are picked. It’s bad enough that picking the teams is a long enough process as it is (with all the resets / captains being afk / people being douches), but we’ll leave that discussion for another day.

What ever happened to the 10 minute rule? I’m not exactly sure to be honest…

It almost seems as though the admins have chosen to not enforce this rule. I’ve seen and been part of many pugs in which an admin is fully aware that the 10 minute rule is not being respected, but nothing is ever enforced (or rarely). So we can rule out the “Oh well the admins can’t be around 24/7” argument.
These days one can expect a pug to take anywhere from 10-30 mins (and sometimes longer…I know..crazy right?) to start after teams are picked which beg the question/s:
1) Does the “10 minute rule” still exist?
2) If it does what exactly IS the “10 minute rule”
3) Should admins enforce it?

To elaborate on #2 (and forgive me as I don’t know how to post a POLL on these forums) I thought we should collectively decide what / if we want this rule and what it pertains.
So should the 10 min rule be one of the following? (by way of vote if you want)
1) 10 Minute rule: means that all 10 players signed in the pug must be in the server / maps selected / and clicked and ready to go withing 10 mins.
2) 10 Minute rule: means that all 10 players signed in the pug must be in the server at the very least..everything else is irrelevant/inevitable.
3) I don’t give a shit about a 10 minute rule. I got nothing better to do anyways.

Personally I vote OPTION 1. I belive 10 minutes is more than enough time to be in the server with a map chosen and clicked in. Pugs would take 1 hour of our time this way (if you grant another 10 mins between maps) and everyone would know what to expect. There WILL be times where a team makes a last minute audible asking to change maps or whatever…and that’s fine. But if the effort was there to be clicked and ready to go within 10 mins that’s a win in itself.

I’m finding it more and more difficult these days to sign up for pugs in fear that it’s going to take too long to get going. I’m willing to commit 1hour. I sign up knowing that this will take 1 hour of my time..but when it goes to 90 mins or more (or anything in between for that matter) …it’s impossible to predict and thus I take the safe road and not sign up. I know this is a personal issue, but some of you MUST feel frustrated having to wait for pugs to start when there is no real reason other than ppl taking their sweetass time.

Anyways…just my 2 cents.

If someone is late, pm an admin.

1[16:39] <@PACO> [16:38] <@PACO> !tb |uK|Shiva`newchair 3h late for pug
01[16:39] <@PACO> [16:38] * ChanServ sets mode: -v+b |uK|Shiva`newchair *!*@71-37-52-226.tukw.qwest.net
01[16:39] <@PACO> [16:38] * |uK|Shiva`newchair was kicked by ChanServ ((PACO) late for pug)

From last night.

The way that the 10 minute rule is enforced is if someone is more than 10mins late and someone complains, I will ban them. If it's just a few minutes late, they get a slap on the wrist and miss a few pugs, if it's more than 7-8mins it's a longer ban. Dray has been banned, Meth banned, Shiva banned.. If I see a situation, I'll deal with it but if people want rules like this enforced, they need to take it upon themselves and message an admin.

If someone is having problems downloading files or something else screwy is going on, I'm more inclined to grant some lenience. It's never black and white but if you pm an @, we'll do our best to decide on what shade of gray it is.

I do agree though that pugs have been getting a bit sloppy lately. Might have something to do with the large influx of players but I'll knock heads off if I see nasty habits creeping in.

While I appreciate your good faith post PACO, I've seen many a time where a player is banned for being late to a pug, simply to be unbanned after the pug is over because they "showed up." I'm sorry, but this doesn't count as enforcing a ban. I know you obviously can't be on irc at all times, but if you have appointed admins, they all need to follow the same rules and dish out the proper punishments.

As for players not having files, I've seen this happen again and again with THE SAME PLAYERS. If they can't figure out how to install files correctly or properly use a cache cleaner, they need to ask for help instead of pugging up and killing 20 minutes every time they pug.

We only play 5 maps so there shouldn't be an issue with load times.

The majority of the ops in the channel don't do anything. There are only a few that do. And PMing them doesn't always help. I've seen multiple people complain about someone being late with nothing being done on numerous occasions. Trying to pug when it takes 20-25 minutes on average to actually begin the pug is ridiculous for those of us who don't have much free time.
Also, if you could specify whether it is allowed to leave the pug/rejoin a new pug after a certain time has passed and it has not started yet. Would this be 15 minutes? 20? 25? 30?

no ones pm'd me once asking for a ban, plenty of people pm me asking to be unbanned .. often the same people who whine others should be banned :)

its a relatively small community banning everyone willynilly is stupid ... personally ill only ban people if theyre repeat offenders .. most of the time if someone doesnt show a sub is found pretty quickly and said person is banned for x amount of time ..

if you join a pug you should put aside 1hr for said pug -imo

It should be 10 min clicked no exceptions. 24hr minimum ban. You think people will just quit UT after being banned for a day? No they wont. The reason people take so long to join the server and click is because they know everyone else will take long. If people know they will be banned they will follow the rules. If this rule gets strictly enforced pugs will be starting 5 min after picking is complete within 2 weeks and the community will not have lost a single pugger.

Unfortunately I do not pug frequently enough to make sure admins are banning all the time. It up to the admins and the players pugging 2+ times a day to make sure this rule gets enforced. It is a benefit to the entire community including those who get banned.

10 minute rule is just a principle, pug mostely starts at 15 minutes, we all used to it. death it happened to u too, i can remember waiting for u to be clicked a few times.

3 hour ban solves nothing. ban length should be the same as noshowing altogether. im not sure how it even takes 10 mins to get into the server, baffling tbh. #ig 7 minute rule ftw :D

increase ban length and people might actually take it seriously

I usually wait until captains are set and then go smoke while teams are being picked, this back fires as some admins reset pugs. I don't have a problem being a captain as long as I know the people in the pug, this is quite hard as most people alias in game. I was also banned after being pugged up for 17 hours ( previous night) and having it start the next day.

If you took every single pug I've ever played in and took an average of how long it took me to get in, I can put money on the fact that it's under 1 minute. I never understood how people take longer than 1-2 minutes to join the server.

3hr bans is the equivalent of giving a pedophile rapist a 6mo jail term.

Back when #ig was ran, I remember getting banned for being late, or subbing out, or idling for too long in a pug etc. It was for 48 hours. All the pugs in #ig has probably made me build good pugging habbits and I'm sure a lot of players who actually played actively in #ig have the same habits and beliefs about people showing up early.

Something needs done about the constant resets though. Perhaps 12 hour bans for leaving 10/10, or something to that effect.
