iPug Ranks and Roles

Postby enochian » Thu Dec 06, 2012 9:09 pm

As some might know, this was a topic discussed over the last few weeks.
I will try to clarify a few questions that have been in some way or another unclear or unanswered from my point of view.

Who are the people that are really in charge of iPug?
The list of iPug admins is: humpty, kud, pete, nob, paco, nick, rain, death, sponge, somar, detox, vitrae.
These are the top dogs and their decisions should not be contested. Although Paco claims tyranny over his realm, most admin decisions are in fact the result of a democratic consensus. This however should not encourage players to whine. If the decision comes from one of the admins, the courteous thing to do is to accept.

Why are there more @'s than people in charge? What power do these people have?
Apparently Paco answered this question in a previous thread. When someone has been recognized to have contributed to the support or progress of the Unreal Tournament community in general and Global Unreal community in particular, they get rewarded with an @ as a mean of saying thank you. These people do not really have administrative power over the iPug channel, although they should in my opinion have the power to temporarily solve conflicts when no admin is online.

What about the half-ops? What power do these people have?
I actually learnt this the hard way when being demoted. Half-ops are supposed to be role models. They are those that players should look up to and aspire to become. These people do not really have any power over the iPug channel, not even if there isn't any admin or op online. The best course of action in case of conflict is to take note of the occurrence and PM an admin when you see one online. Do not try to hero it as seeing that this is not your role. In real life most heroes end up dead anyway.

I hope i have helped someone else in clarifying these points. My own fate would have been different if someone had taken the time to explain them to me before.

With few exception, I only flex my ops to unban people whose bans I disagree with. I don't do much banning myself and I don't like to muddle with the PUG bot either.

I find your ability to distort reality concerning..
Now here's some facts:

1 - I didn't ban maik after we won 10-0, I banned him before.
2 - I was wrong and i admit it. Nobody had ever explained to me the role of being a half op and that is exactly why i made this post.
3 - I didn't do this post to cry out and say "Hey, i lost my half op!". There are already enough whiners in this community.
4 - Do i want be part of this community's "finest" and rank higher in iPug? I'm sorry but my answer is no. This is not the first time the admins have let me down. When i implemented Autopause according to what was asked of me to do, i actually lost a whole night doing so. They kindly rewarded me by making me wait 2 weeks before being able to test it. This time, again, they removed my half op without even talking to me or caring to know my side of the story. They also didn't bother explaining why i lost the access out of their own initiative. I don't like being ignored when i'm actually trying.
5 - You are accusing me of not grabbing, but have you compared my kill distribution with both of the other 2 attackers on my team? They are similar to mine and i also have the most covers, meaning i was in their base and not mindlessly DMing.
6 - Do i backshoot? Yes i do. Do you chase? Yes you do (as proven yesterday). Do you promote conflicts? Yes you do, you are still nigging my ass even after you got it your way and won a free ride at someone else's expenses. Are you a role model? Not on my standards.
7 - Helping someone else with this info already met my goal for making this post. Thanks d3r.

I am sorry but i never got your reply. Apparently the message was lost somewhere between your computer and mine, probably caused by the BNC's. I know people are going to say i'm lying and that it is impossible that this happened, however it did. I'm still gonna take the blame for this one if someone puts it on me. I have no idea what happened.

(05:58:29) (enochian) yo PACO
(05:58:53) (enochian) what am i entitled to do in ipug with the hop, if anything at all?
(05:59:13) (enochian) a while ago i kicked sw for backshooting
(05:59:29) (enochian) people started saying power abuse and wtv
(05:59:53) (enochian) including tyler
(06:07:16) (enochian) ow wait, cross that out, tyler said it should have been a ban
(06:07:32) (enochian) blackout was the one who said it was abuse
(06:07:52)  -› PACO is now known as PACOOO\BNC

I'm wondering if there's something with PACO's BNC- I send him PMs all the time and never get responses. It's no big deal, ofc, since I understand he's a really busy guy- Just wondering if there's an issue somewhere. :D

Pardon my intrusion into this thread but I'm 90% sure the way IRC works is that in any exchange of messages where you see your message appear in the conversation history means that it reached the destination as long as there's no error message.

By destination I meant the server (globalgamers.net) and if neither eno or PACO timed out during that exchange or afterward... ah never mind. Not my place to say.

/me exits thread.

that is the single most puzzling thing that I've ever seen. The concept of "understanding" has been completely wiped from my mind, and I will never be the same.
