i don't see a big deal in making people demo it's not killing you in any way shape or form and what if you hit a nice shot? and you was like daaaaaaaamn...i wish i recorded it..well you did....if someone accuses someone it would be nice to have something to look at from the current pug instead of "LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL NEXT PUG WHERE I CAN TOGGLE OFF AND SUCK RLY BAD ROFLZ"

In the past, serverside demos were not a good reflection of a players actual aim style. It's great for highlights and 3rd person but flawed from a 1st person pov. Unless that has been corrected (would need to see the two compared side by side), player demos are the way to go.

sadly demos are very difficult to prove based on the sophistication of what's out there. All I can tell you is they are very real, and any number of people use them. the shitties know who they are. I'm fine with that. Even with a demo most shots are played off as skill or luck. it goes so much further than just a demo but most people don't think about any less subtle signs, but that's just the nature of the beast.

I don't have much faith left at this point. it is what it is.

that being said, I don't need an anti cheat to be able to tell. It's the masses that need convincing.

The server demos will be very slightly different from what the client saw. And if we were using demos to detect cheats, one of the things we would look at is where the shock beam hit on the enemy hitbox, which might differ depending on ping and/or how in sync the players' positions are on the client with the server. But combine the higher tickrate and netspeeds and the fact that the shock beam will be shifted by the same delta (to match the enemy's current position when everyone else sees the shot fired), it should be fairly true to what the client saw. The shock beams you see in client demos right now are actually the server's beams anyway.
