CTF-RiversBend]And[

I started 3 days ago with a test to make water look like it flows and I ended up with this :) I've always wanted to make an outdoor map and I think I did it!. Its beta at most, I'm sure itll need fixes galore but as of now its got full weapons and pickups in it as well as quick bot pathing so they actually function. My biggest concern is performance, I was getting some dips in the mid with some action going on, its probably my trees but I'd like to see if its ok for other people. I didn't see the poly's go over 200 surprisingly. Any ideas, tweaks, fixes would be appreciated! its not enclosed with boundaries yet other than the ceiling so I know its escapable. I haven't mylevel'd any of the textures yet so the dl is about 30 megs cause of the full texture packs. Also I don't know what my trees were linked to as far as files but everything should be in the dl. Please check it out!

1. Ho-Lee crap! Dude. Its awesome what a good mapper can make UE1 look like.
2. Start making tutorials. I never made it to get those extra decorations into UED without screwing it up.
3. The skybox is best :D
4. Looking at the trees, we definitely need static mesh collision.
5. Water zones would be nice, you could also change the zone gravity.

If you can find the UT meshmaker tool thingy its really easy to get it to work! Those trees and ferns were make entirely in UED and brought back in as a mesh with the tool, the hard part was finding textures that looked ok and making the damn thing not have a bunch of BSP holes lol

The skybox is actually just a copy and paste from Dusk, it was temporary just to get the feel for the map, but hell I might not even change it cause it looks beautiful(thank you for that btw! :) )

Collisions suck for meshes, the best I could do was put a long cylinder somewhere in the tree, but then if its in the wrong place the whole tree just goes black, so that was a pain!

I completely forgot about the water zone, I want it at least for the splash effect and on it. I was thinking about some zone gravity for the flow but it would probably make the water route even less likely to be used, but it would be really cool with a little pull so maybe I will!

Thanks! The Meshmaker is great. Used it for the fans in Elsinore][.
My suggestion: Always use "obj load file=yourfile.u package=MyLevel". Just type it in the command line, the new actors will appear in the browser as usual. This will make the map easier to handle and to send, cause you avoid extra packages. But every actor class you don't place at least once will be deleted from MyLevel and will have to be reimported.

There is also a .t3d exporter for Autodesk 3ds Max. You can import the brush un UEd, edit the textures and make a mesh out of it. The results will be way better than meshes made in unrealed ;)
You can use the free student's version of 3ds Max which is provided by Autodesk. Have a look

Unlike most of the maps I've tried from this forum, yours actually has bot-pathing... and it's good to. So I love your map on that basis first and primarily. That and it's a good map overall, looks great.

Minus 1 thing:

When I played it, there were no textures on either fort. I installed everything right but it looks like that.

It looks like you made upgrades to a few already existing .utx files, which as a rule I'm loathe to copy over in those cases as it tends to screw up maps i like.
