Diamondsword Portal FAIL!

I was spectating this pug when I saw it had some UT heavyhitters in it (and the DS pro bbz). It went into long overtime. After overtime 15 minutes into the map, I saw something that changed the very fabric of my life and helped develop PTSD symptoms for me (J/k!). Be sure to select 720p btw. Remember kyle, who was spamming "POWER PLAY" was on same team as the portal fail. :lol:

Once you get used to them it is pretty simple. Run straight into the portal and you come straight out.

once you play a few maps you should be able to adapt and get used to them fairly easily. however, i do agree it was kinda unnecessary to change how the portals worked after 10+ years of everyone using them the prior way

Actually the direction of some portals that everyone got used to over the years wasn't at all how the map makers intended. When they made the maps, there's about a 99.999% chance they had just tested it in single player without UTPure, as that's the way UnrealEd is set up when you choose "Play Level".

There's a bug in either UTPure (or possibly even the default online play) where it reverses your view rotation when it shouldn't, at least when compared to testing it via UnrealEd.

An unintentional side effect of making the lagless portals in newnet was that the portal direction matches exactly what the map maker designed when they created the map. No one reversed the portals on Diamondsword; it's just how it ended up when the bug with the direction was fixed. And I'm not going to reintroduce that bug because it would be retarded to do so, so don't ask.

Also, I've noticed a lot of people waiting to dodge until after they've passed through a portal, likely because the original portals caused you to warp (massive screen tearing) if you dodged through them. But with the lagless newnet portals you can dodge into portals as you pass through them with no warping/screen tearing whatsoever.

No need to get all upset, just commenting that it was unnecessary to change them since everyone was already used to how they've always been. as IR mentioned, fairly easy to get used to

I wasn't at all upset. Sorry if it seemed like it. I was just letting people know they shouldn't bother asking to reverse the portals. ;)

when you go through the portal backwards, you have to turn 90° to your right to be facing forward

i don't see how thats fixed?

the only portal that is remotely fixed is the portal next to the flag, and even then, not really


in that pug we played there were 2 instances of players randomly dropping the flag while go through the portal and still being alive...never seen that before

Welcome to newnet.

Not hating 100%, but things happen in newnet that don't make sense 100% of the time. Newnet caters not to what is on your screen, but what the server receives information on.
