Help

Postby FALLACY » Tue Mar 26, 2013 9:04 am

Hello there, So I've been trying to make some videos using Fraps / Sony Vegas and for some reason they all seem to come out like this...

I have other videos posted that don't look like this but I didn't use vegas. I used something else that really doesn't have any effects. I tried to add effects to the video posted above to help with the look but even @ 480p it's still terrible.

Unrealshots has been helping me out and giving me some tips but I'm just curious as to how you other guys are recording. Like, what resolution in UT (full screen or windowed) what FPS, what program to render the videos, etc.

Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.

I'd love an answer to this too.

On a sidenote, that was a hell of a run on Scandi.

The first question I'd ask is if the raw fraps footage looks like that. If the fraps avis are too big to play, capture a second or 2 of UT footage in fraps and watch that in win media player or something. If the fraps footage is normal, then I'd suspect your vegas project settings are the problem.

Also, don't use vegas to compress. Vegas is just good for doing editing, piecing together clips, creating some effects like custom kill msgs, etc. If you're using vegas, always render uncompressed and then use virtualdub with either the xvid or x264 codec (the x264 codec is superior) to compress. You can also use virtualdub to convert videos to 30 fps for the best quality on youtube (since youtube compresses vids to 30 fps regardless and causes problems with high fps vids).

I rarely record ut99 videos, but I did this one the other day. Not much to say here: recorded with fraps @ 30 fps (Full screen, 1920x1080, 24xEQ AA,16xAF, etc.), rendered with Vegas (Sony AVC, MP4, 1080p, 16Mbit, Progressive Scan, "Intelligent Resampling" disabled).

Aximon I'm a big fan of your YouTube channel. Amazing demo you just posted, never seen it before.

I'm qu8129 on yt :)

My public vids have all been 60 fps, hence why they aren't so fantastic quality-wise. I still think the x264 codec used with vdub is superior to any of the codecs in Vegas.

Thanks I'll try some of those settings out and I'll give vdub a shot.

I use ffmpeg to convert the videos I've made before to h264 (using the x264 codec as well) with no issue.

Thanks for tuning in regularly, R1cKJam3s. I remember watching some of your uploads. I use Virtual Dub only for joining screenshots but I'll try that rendering thing as well.
