sDOM Captains

Hello everyone,

In my upcoming events thread, I mentioned the possibility of an sDOM tournament and I am still extremely interested in running one. Whether it happens before or after KOTR.III and Global.iCTF.III is another matter (Feb.10 and Feb.17). February 3rd is the SuperBowl which leaves the two Sundays necessary to run this tournament as Jan 20th and Jan 27th.

The format?
8 teams with 6 players per team.
Draft-based.
Round Robin games on weekend #1, elimination games on weekend #2.

The most important thing before I try to get this ball rolling would be 8 captains for the two weekend event. If I can get 8 captains, I'll try to push through with the tournament. If I can't, I'll push it back to after the iCTF season.

Who is willing to captain for these dates?

Should have opened signups weeks ago like I begged you to do repeatedly and this thing had a chance to do well. It's now 11 days from when this tournament is supposed to happen and player signups aren't even open. This thing could have truly been huge, 14+ teams and a potentially epic season if it was given the amount of attention as the other tournaments. No rules, maplist, no signups, not even a draft date set, and this draft is supposed to happen in a week? You're begging for this to fail miserably and inevitably ruin any chances of SDOM becoming a competitive gametype. Give SDOM the respect it deserves. Postpone.


If you decide to go ahead with the tournament as planned, I will captain anyway.

Actually agree with phear on this, seems like a really short time window compared to everything else.

I would postpone this until after iCTF, or just hold a simple tournament like the MLMS where people can play with whoever

I would prefer if sDOM was not draft based but form your own team like LMS was.

The problem with this format is that I'm not sure if there will Dev matches or opportunities for mid and low tier players to play. I love sDom, and I'd love to play and achieve something, but there's no reason to sign up if I won't get the opportunity. I'll captain if there are Dev matches or something similar- perhaps postponing the tourney is the best option.

Based on feedback from this thread, I think the best case scenario would be to postpone the tournament to do it properly. If we can increase pug activity, I wouldn't mind turning this tournament into an actual league. I've been a touch busy but we got through a 32 team (105+ player) 1 day tournament and have a really ambitious KOTR.III and Global.iCTF.III coming up. I think I'll enjoy a week or two of downtime.

I also prefer clan signups to the draft system. Its a very teamplay mod and you cant do shit in it with random team without practice.

The problem with sDOM though is uneven teams = no fun. Could we get enough solid ones without a draft?

You could do this kind of league/tournament by doing it clanbase style by entering teams and separating them by groups and divisions to avoid stacked teams vs. weaker ones that still want to play but are not as familiar with the mod.

Season's cancelled guys.. After some unfortunate events last night Paco decided he doesnt like sDOM anymore..
