z axis is depth in all the 3d computer art/animation programs i've used (maya/lightwave), y axis is up/down, and x left/right. as seen here:

after googling around, it looks like you might be into autocad, or vector 3d, where z is as you explained.
True i fooked up forgetting the current maps with boots..... although, the only map actually played with boots is currently scandi.
