UT99 windows 7 problem!

Postby dvn_BeasT » Wed Jul 03, 2013 8:12 am

Hi, i just recently bought a new pc and all was good, untill i wanted to play some ut.

The problem is that when i get in the game after a few seconds ut freezes, then the screen go's black and returns to ut. This repeats again and again. Also when this happends and i go to windows i get the message that the video driver has stopped responding and that windows has restarted it.

This only happens in ut, all other games run fine on ultra settings.

What have i tried?

corefix
d3d7/8/9/10/11
opengl version
run ut in winxp mode
turned of power saving stuff at the device manager
disabled the onboard gfx

none of the above fixes the problem.

plz help me before i return this pc to the store, and burn thier building down!

THX!

any ideas?

update:

now i have tried it with different ini's and also works, only when i use a d3d file other then the default one i start getting the problem.

have you try to set your native desktop ?

maybe you have a auto adjust mode with your graphic card to disable

you can try to not open the game on full screen

i had this issue. Sometimes I would get that error, sometimes not.
Anyways, I'm still not sure what adjustment fixed it. I think playing around with video drivers helped? I'm running UT stable now with ATi Catalyst 12.10 drivers.
I only play in OpenGL now (D3D gives me mouse lag).

This will happen if you are running dual monitors, win7 or 8, and using "aero" themes. Go to personalize and select a basic theme if this is your case.

or try..

Sounds like maybe your game is loading in the wrong resolution/refresh and it's flashing between your desktop and the game. Open your unrealtournament.ini and edit these lines to match what your monitor can do, obviously the top 2 are the size when it's windowed, so make sure that's smaller than fullscreen (or at least same size).

[WinDrv.WindowsClient]
WindowedViewportX=1280
WindowedViewportY=720
WindowedColorBits=32
FullscreenViewportX=1920
FullscreenViewportY=1080

This may also help once you get ut up. Adjust the path to your actual path.
Open notepad and create a bat file, or you can modify your desktop shortcut.

C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C start "UnrealTournament.exe" /affinity 1 "C:\Unreal Anthology\UnrealTournament\System\UnrealTournament.exe"

thx killemall,

i've aplyed all 3 suggested fixes but no glory!

takes about 3 seconds before it freezes and go's black, then windows fixes it and back to game where it again freezes after 3 secs.

The wierd thing is that when i run @ 800x600 its takes longer before it freezes, i cant figure out why that is.

Set your ut to the same resolution as your desktop. Your moniter could be going out of range (like with refresh) at 4:3 settings.

Btw what is your desktop and preferred ut res?

"now i have tried it with different ini's and also works, only when i use a d3d file other then the default one i start getting the problem."

If you get bored, add the lines in one at a time and see what breaks it.

Ok i tought i try something new.

I removed my gfx, then connected the monitor to the onboard gfx:

MB Model : 760GM-P23(FX) (MS-7641)

startet the pc, then installed the driver. REBOOT

Now back in windows i tought lets try ut. i started it and after e few seconds ( on duku i ran from my flag to the other base flagwith no players in the server) the computer rebooted no warnings nothing. just freez and bam reboot.

Now this leads me to believe that the problem might not be the gfx but the pc/windows

Maybe you experts know the next step?

many thx

your onboard might be the same chip....

If you can afford it, get a nVid card today
If you can't, update everything possible (bios, mboard, audio card, ethernet) that can be updated
play around with video drivers and look on youtube.

If that's the case, just replace the power supply. But if they're gonna send you something brand new (and possibly better) then go for it. Just make sure the power supply is rated high enough before they send it to you.

Well i mailed the guy who was helping me with this case, and he replyed that the new pc that they are gonna send me has a 650watt powersuply and instead of the fx 8120 (3.1), they put in a FX-8320(3.5) wich obiously is faster.

Thing is that he says the mobo can handle it and that in this config it should work. He upgraded the hardware (cpu and power suply) just to be sure.

Im gonna send my pc 2morrow of maybe wednesday, and expect the new pc to be delivered friday.
I will let u guys know how this saga ends!
