New video card

Postby Carras » Fri Aug 30, 2013 2:16 pm

Basically not sure what happened... but I need a new video card. I want to spend ~$150-160 but everything i'm looking at seems to be $180 - 200+

I've been using a 7750 for sometime and I installed/played SM for ~4 hours saturday night, turned off my computer and when I woke up and turned on my comp the monitors would not turn on. I shut it down carefully and turned it on multiple times and nothing. I plugged a monitor into the onboard video and that was pretty much fine after a couple resolution tweaks. I tried the 7750 again and nothing. I did a couple small things thinking it would help the pci-e but nothing. I had to go out and spend $35 on a 5450 to get me through (i work from home, etc). The guy at the tech desk at Fry's said there's physically nothing wrong with the 7750 (wanted to charge me $40 to put it in a machine and confirm it's state of being - i said i'm buying a $40 card instead). Could SM have seriously done this? tipped my card over the edge?? lol. idk. thoughts? input pls

Radeon is cheaper, but prone to overheating, artefacts and break faster overall... Esp 6000/7000 series.

Don't go AMD whatever they tell you. I once did it based on good reviews, but their drivers still suck monkey balls.

I use nVidia, I got a sweet deal from www.dabs.com - not sure if they still have their sale on.

If heat is an issue you may want to look at this type of cooler. I picked one up but got a dud. It sometimes works and never breaks 50c under full load.
