i avoid thescript because I assume the irc client is outdated, and there's always risks associated with outdated software. it's also a pain in the ass to find when I need to reinstall. I ended up installing because (yes, you can change that dark blue in the users list to something readable). Names in chat are given a background colour which makes following conversations in spammy channels much easier. it's open source, and has a lot of advanced features that I ignore...apparently it was built to make irc scripting much easier, but I just use the basic features.
