Windows 8 Problems

Postby E|ite » Wed Nov 27, 2013 2:57 pm

Hello guys

Ever since I got a new computer with windows 8. I have been having major problems with UT. I really miss playing this game with you guys....I've been playing this game from the beginning since the demo came out and know a lot of the old school players. I downloaded chickens recent UT. Some of the problems I have with it is the choppiness I get in game.....the laggyness.... the gameplay seems really fast like I'm running super fast as if I'm playing in 140 speed and not 100....it seems the hit boxes are also messed up I hit a person dead on and seems to go right through the person....my ping is good so that cant be the problem. The whole experience with the game is completely different. I'm hitting 35 or less eff and 15 acc when before I got this computer was playing on vista and xp would be getting 55-65 eff and around 30+ acc. Ive also tried opengl ( which Ive always used in the past) and D3D9... both give me problems... I just don't understand just by getting a new pc my skills have completely dropped and my gameplay has worsened. If anyone can help me with this I would really appreciate it and would love to start playing with all of you again in upcoming leagues and pugs.

My computer specs are
Windows 8 64 Bit
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3350P CPU @ 310 GHz
8 Gigs of Ram
Geforce GTX 560
120 hz LED Monitor

There are a handful of other threads in this forum that provide suggestions on things to try. Although I'm not sure about Windows 8 specifically. You'll probably need to skim through them and try a bunch of different things.

Most suggestions you'll read will apply to Windows 8 as well.

try setting your fps at 120 if you use a 120hz and check if it runs properly by typing timedemo 1 in game, also make sure swapinterval is at 0 on your ini settings

what renderer are you using?
from what I've heard, d3d9 gets the best results with newer operating systems.

what refresh rate does your monitor run at? (lcd usually run at 60hz unless you bought a high-end monitor that runs at 120hz or 144hz)

does it run smoothly in single player?

try fallacy's inis http://sja94.net76.net/ut/inis/download ... ALLACY_ini
i could explain step by step what settings to change, but it's just easier to swap the ini

also turn threaded optimization off in your graphics card settings. there's probably a way to do it for only a specific application (ut.exe)

The only way I was able to fix the sped up gameplay issue is by limiting framerate to the monitor's refresh rate. So for you that would be around 119-121. So in your UnrealTournament.ini you have to set FrameRateLimit=120. And yes this does something different from what the RefreshRate variable does.

Disable cpu throttling
http://isboxer.com/wiki/HOWTO:Disable_C ... in_Windows

You can create a batch file to run UT on one core.
Ace does this, but I don't think very well.
C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C start "UnrealTournament.exe" /affinity 1

Thanks for all the help guys so I downloaded fallacys ini and it actually seems a little better....just a couple questions. I was told to swapinterval be a 0 but in his ini its at -1? does that make a difference and I also turned off v sync in my graphics card control panel.

Then a question for Medor and Killemall is the disable cpu throttling and mulitcorefix the same thing??? and by doing those things what changes with my computer and ut

I seem to still be having the faster speed. Back In the day I used to play 120-140 speed and that what it feels like....it doesn't feel like 100 to me at all.

Here is fallacys ini that I copied all I did was change the swapinterval from -1 to 0 but other than that everything was the same.....

Oh ya and my computer specs are....

So I dled the muliti core fix and got a error

Has a error box on the top it says UnrealTournament.exe - system error then under says The program cant start because windows.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix the problem.

Lol is that bad

Search windows.dll on your computer and copy past it in the folders
C:\WINDOWS
C:\WINDOWS\system
C:\WINDOWS\system32
other system may be like 64 ?

If you set
SwapInterval=0 to SwapInterval=-1 is no smooth for playing
ACE tuto say to set to -1 but I not recommend

SwapInterval=0 is the nice way
