My Issue With (more-so without) 4444 Textures

I used to use the 4444 textures and OpenGL back when I was "good" at UT a couple of years back, there's a substantial difference to how I am now to how I used to be, and I've never been able to prove it, so it looks like a whine, I understand that, but there's a few things that factor in, I.E my inability to focus and for some reason not being able to see the UT skins so great.
A few years ago, I found a solution: 4444 textures. For those of you who don't know what they are or what they look like, here's a clip of Billy: (I figure it shows the textures best out of any others that I know of) playing with me in [SiN]. They're a huge difference maker to me and I prefer the 'feel' of OpenGL anyway as opposed to D3D9, however atm, I see the D3D9 textures better... they're more "defined". In regard to definiton, the 4444 textures are supreme compared to anything else... I just can't get them to work on my new PC, whereas I know others don't have this issue with newer hardware.
I've tried everything I know. Updated drivers, the OGL versions that work with 4444, different UT's, different INI's, the lot.

My system specs are:
17" LCD 8MS DELL
CPU Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz - Overclocked to 4301MHz
RAM: 8GB
GFX: nVidia GeForce GTX 560 Ti 2GB
Windows 7: Ultimate.

TL;DR - Want 4444 textures. Won't work. Help fix. Plzthx.

I use the correct version of OpenGL for the 4444 textures, IR.

I believe it's in the utchicken version (opengl v2.61 or something)

Yeah OpenGL renderers 2.x up to 2.7 have that option (utglr27)

Looks pretty tweakish to me, but idk. The youtube video is terrible looking, especially with decals.

When I typed IR, I meant Cy, also it's perfectly allowed.

Sauron: The decals is a demo bug if you skip to a time.

Can someone tell me how to use these textures? Are they separate textures that you download from somewhere? EDIT: Also, I can't find the ogl 2.7 renderer (or older) anywhere

was gonna try it yesterday but no one pugged after 9:30 (until too late for me). ut looked the same to me, couldn't tell a diff so iunno

Tried with utglr2.7. Adds a slight rainbow of colors effect to all the textures on my screen. Looks slightly like 256 colors, but not as bad. If you set LODbias to say 10, you'll notice the added colors to the textures better. Didn't give me any advantage that I could see or feel.

I've tried it, I used to use it many years ago. It actually does help on some maps I.E w00t, there's a lot of stars where as when you enable 4444 textures there's less of them. It's a lot easier to see skins also.
Personally I don't really like it was I like a nice clean looking UT with the ability to see skins nicely also.

its not tweaking at all. 444tex are avail on 2.5 / 2.6 / 2.7 opengl renderers, theres nothing abnormal about it. its just another default setting, like lets say coronas or direct input for example. Also cant believe none of you knew about this o_O. Theres no real advantage to it and it depends on the map aswell as 16bit looking textures also affect the maps, not only the skins. In the end its all about personal preference 8-)

I'm asking, not saying it should be - there is a difference - I personally don't use coronas or decals, and have 11/10 brightness and use utglr36

The only reason I bothered to post is because it could be considered an advantage if it does indeed make skins easier to see and less stars visible on a space-theme map. The most controversial of which would be DiamondSword, which is now on the map list. If some players have an advantage over others by using this on certain maps and have certain UT installs..get my point? If it's fair game then w/e, just playing with pandora's box if you will.

tl;dr - Where should the line be drawn :?:
