eh, it looks ugly and disgusting to me. I don't quite see it being an advantage; I can understand the argument that it makes it a bit easier to see the skins but it also makes everything look blurrier and a strain to look at. Not something I would ever use. There are other tweaks you can use (legal ones, of course) that will make it easier to see opponents without completely wrecking eye-candy and looking all blurry.

BTW - I don't think it necessarily helps on a map like DS. MAYBE if you're playing roof d and the floors all become bright white, it might make it a bit easier spot the opponents but at that distance and the roof angle from across the map, it won't be enough for me to consider it an "advantage".

I don't think it matters (aka I dont care) if you were asking or not, if it could be construed as an advantage on certain types of maps it should be discussed at the very least. Which is what happened. It was talked about.

I've got them working on latest D3D9 (and also latest utglr) by putting Use16BitsTextures on true.

I just tried this 4444 texture thing out with an old opengl driver from ut-files.com/index.php?dir=Video_Renders/ and used it on my steam version of UT and it took out all the shadows in scandi..the corners are 'darkish' where shadows are supposed to be, like under the sniper bunker in the flag room, but when someone stands there they stick out like a sore thumb. When I have more time I will test more maps but..really? Really?...

Granted it made everything look like i was playing with a VooDoo3 again but it was definitely playable once you got used to it. :|

edit - tried coret and ec2, shadowed spots look normal but player skins seem to 'pop out' a bit more in those locations

Trust me, you've not got it working.
You'd seriously know if you did.

I assure you, it's working. It looks like an old atari game. Player skins pop out in darker locations much more than my utglr36 does. Same INI i'm using on my other UT install, except 4444 enabled. At fast pace for more than a couple maps my eyes start to hurt cause it looks like dogshit and I'm not used to it.

Oh, it also raised my fps from 131 avg to 142 avg, lol

edit - Still not calling anyone a cheater, as the downside is bigger than the upside - it's not like the player skins are glowing or anything, they just seem to appear brighter against a darker background, like shadows aren't affecting the skin.

I wish there was a way to get these working with newer graphics cards :(

If you ever found a solution (other than putting your old gfx card back in), let me know Serenity

since i have put in a new gfx card the shadows are fucking bananas. I can't see people on maps now and it's really bad. I would also like to try this if there's a way to do it!

i used the utglr 2.7 from a link that torch/keith posted, used the same .ini as my real installation and went in and changed 4444 textures to true in 'preferences-->opengl' and use 16bit color in settings

if it's not working for you IDK cause it made mine look completely different..much like a video I saw of billz playing in duku.. :ugeek:

i will say for me, changing Use4444Textures=True and Use16BitTextures=true made the colors in opengl much better for me here. before the blue was faded/pale and blue skins at a distance blended in walls for me anyways. now they seem to show better on my screen...

CK.

People are confusing 4444 textures and 16-bit.
They're both ugly and fucked up looking, but they're different.
