I bought the G400v2 recently (v2 = the one without angle snapping/prediction) and I really like it.
It's shaped like the mx518 which had many fans as far as I know. I haven't experienced difficulties like with my old Razer Deathadder (couldn't do small movements somehow - I was used to laser sensors). Small movements and reaction shots are possible.

For those who prefer laser mice I can recommend the TTesports Black Element - that's the mouse I was using before. No flaws like (negative) acceleration and stuff. Sensor in the middle of the mouse and so on. The shape is a bit uncommon but I liked it. It's quite light though (I heard there are ppl who like their mouse as heavy as possible :D).

I heard the Steelseries Sensei was quite nice too even though I personally didn't like it. I'd recommend buying the new version though with grip cover - the Steelseries Sensei [RAW].

Another really good mouse with some heavy flaws is the Roccat Kone+ (I think there's even a newer version out already). Great shape, size, and sensor.
BUT HERE COMES THE PROBLEM: I had to clean the sensor after every map of UT causing me to become paranoid and suck because I thought the sensor was dirty again.
I know several ppl with the same problem with the Kone.
In addition it seems to be poorly manufactured. It breaks quite often and fast :D.
The new version's name is Roccat Kone XTD btw.

I stumbled upon an interesting new mouse today - it has the newest Avago laser sensor: the QPAD 5K LE. It has the same sensor as the Roccat Kone XTD but maybe it's better in terms of quality. Haven't tested so dunno... The shape seems a bit weird though :D

The problem with the G500 is the position of the sensor imo. It's positioned too far in the front of the mouse. And since you probably move your mouse with your wrist that means more movement of the sensor --> difficult for me to set my sens in UT and hard to do small movements. That's just me of course.

I once had a spreadsheet with the flaws and advantages of some sensors/mice but I can't find it right now. I'll try to find it and post it here.

I have a G5 (laser) and love it- It was recommended to me by sorn, ph34r, and serenity (who've all used it in the past). Other notable users include JYB, IR, and Cy. It has no flaws other than a small amount of prediction. Unlike the G500 (the newer version of the G5), the sensor is in the middle of the mouse and there are no positive acceleration issues. The only thing about the G5 is that it's discontinued and difficult to find at a reasonable price (this is why sorn and co. had to find other mice after their G5s died).

nice post uenz, ive tried a couple of those :

roccat kone ..was a nice mouse but was abit 'clunky' and it broken pretty quickly left click and same prob with sensor.

steelseries sensei.. i really liked this mouse was really nice when it worked but the software? i think sucked dick .. kept cutting out and stopping half the time no idea what the problem was think it was software related though and i couldnt find a fix.

using the xai atm its nice but not as nice as the sensei imo-

ill prob try the g400 next if this one breaks dies or i get bored and see it for a good price ;d

best mouse ive had was the razer diamondback :< or atleast i played the best with this one lol

Do you recommend a mousepad also? I always feel like mouse acceleration on my G9x + razer goliathus speed

Do you get this problem with opengl also?

I was thinking of getting a g500 or g400 soon.
What would you suggest, i have never bought a gaming mouse before.
Don't use A4 paper as a mouse mat.

Yeah I was aware of the unkillable accel on logitech laser mice. Does G400 feel perfect with a goliathus?
I was considering that one or a Sensei actually. Might buy a 9HD if I go to the sensei choice.

I may have to try one of the ones u recommended uenz because my g500 is acting up it randomly turns off then when it isnt randomly turning off it gets really slow I cant even move the pointer on my desktop its like 0.1 DPI same thing happens when im playing ut at times i cant move at all i just pray i can move into some1 or dodge into a shot and it hits them.

well then if you dont have anything against optical mice I'd really recommend the G400 - and it's supercheap!

Costs like 30€ here in Germany, what is about 40$?

Question for the G400 users out there. Does this mouse really have the large mouse skate in the center of the mouse in addition to the typical skates on the perimeter as seen on this link.

How does having the mouse sensor in the middle of the mouse (g400, g5) vs towards the top (g500) impact aim? I've been using the G500 for a couple years now.
