Yet Another Issue For Serenity...

Postby Serenity » Tue Dec 11, 2012 3:36 am

After having my G400 for about a week or so(?), I'm already having an issue.
If I move my mouse left/right consecutively for a few seconds, it's normal, then all of a sudden my mouse speed decides to increase tenfold making it very difficult to control for about 2-3 seconds... this happens every 10 or so seconds. My UT seems to stutter subsequently resulting in the mouse speed increase.

inb4
- Not changed a single setting
- Tried other mice, they're fine
- Installed/reinstalled/uninstalled SetPoint, no difference
- Tried different DPI's, hz & USB slots
- Changed between ACE Highperftoggle ON and OFF

Example:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPBiDVrN ... e=youtu.be

It's of course not the best example 'cause it's significantly noticable when I'm aiming at someone and then all of a sudden I face the roof or do 2 360's.
Yay for constantly having problems.

Why are you using Setpoint with the G400? Use Logitech Gaming Software.

hey,

i used to have the same with my g9x, it would sometimes go hyper for a second and then back to normal (not caused by changing game profile setting). this often happened just before a lagboost or right after. (in cod). for me this was gone after updating the driver.

i saw you said you tried reinstalling setpoint, but it says on the logitech site that the g400 doesn't use setpoint but Logitech Gaming Software 8+? Maybe give that a go?
-------------------------------

Supported software for the G400 mouse

Why doesn't SetPoint see my G400 mouse and how can I fix this?

Optical Gaming Mouse G400
Model Number:
M-U0028 (Mouse)

The G400 mouse doesn't use SetPoint to configure its behavior. It uses Logitech Gaming Software 8.01 and higher.

Visit the G400 Downloads page to get the correct software.

Looks like the annoying effect with directinput off... it happens to me also, using a G5

Have you tried alt + tab then returning to ut? It kinda fixed it for me. I'm not even using setpoint.

Yes, I've tried a lot of stuff. It's only in UT, too.
Team Fortress 2 - Good
Left 4 Dead 2- Good
Unreal Tournament 2004 - Good

I've always had an issue with my UT where I drop 1-5 frames or so and it makes my UT stutter pretty fierce, that seems to be when my mouse goes insane, but it never used to happen as frequently as this.

My guess is that its not related to the G400

Have you tried to play with Directinput to see if it happens?

If it never happens in other games or on the desktop, it is likely some settings in UT that are screwing it up. Maybe try spydee's ini, his r cheetz

I'd rather keep to my own settings. I only use mine, I don't bother with anyone elses. I've not changed anything in my UT settings for this to happen, I'm clueless as to what's suddenly causing it.

Maybe some program in the background is interfering with UT...did you install any new updates, software, etc recently? Have you restarted your computer? Does the problem occur in practice mode too, or just internet play? At one point for me, I changed no UT settings and suddenly my FPS dropped to 30 constantly for no apparent reason. Had to reinstall because of it. UT is weird like that.

Toss out your setpoint disc immediately, it's worthless trash. Pretty obvious that it's UT related and not mouse related since it's fine in every other game. First step is what Angus already suggested, test in single player and see if its only in online play or if its both.

It's only the g400 and only in UT?

edit -could everyone please stop confusing setpoint and LGS, they are 2 different programs and one is complete junk, the other is only semi-junk :D

Have you tried to reset your opengl/dr3d, or going back to an older version? Normally that helps when something mouse related happens to my ut.

I tried it in both offline mode and on a few IP's from #iPug.

It's not SetPoint or the other one (:F), I tried a PUG with and without it, it didn't make any difference. I'll reinstall UT tonight or so.

Narrow it down a bit more i suppose

try with direct input
try on your desktop(since this uses the same input method as UT does with DI off)
try another game
different hz and dpi(didn't read sry)

it could just be the mouse bugging up switching to a higher DPI for a short time

try the mouse on another PC if you have one, a laptop ect

also if UT stutters it could be the mouse reconnecting? but from your video it doesn't seem to be the case

I had exactly the same problem when i switched to my G5 and G9x.
It only happened in UT but i didnt notice frame drops (altough i do have a good PC).

Background on my problem:
I switched from a deathadder to a G5 and then again to a G9x.
Both the G5 and the G9x use Setpoint drivers and these were updated when the switch was made.
The deathadder uses razer drivers and they were still installed by the time i used the G5 and the G9x.
Both the G5 and the G9x had the problem described by serenity despite having different time intervals between the sudden speed increase.

How i solved it:
I also thought the problem had to be UT related, however it wasnt. My UT folder had been copied from the laptop and therefore i wasnt really blaming UT. By now i was regreting having bought my new computer seeing the problem happened around the same time.
One day i remembered to uninstall the razer drivers and suddenly the problem disappeared. Therefore i concluded these were the faulty ones.

I would guess that this problem is the same. You probably have both Logitech Gamming Software (G400) and Setpoint (G500) installed. Try removing one of them and who knows, maybe the problem will be fixed.
Sorry for the long post, but i felt like telling a story =P

TLDR:
I had Setpoint + Razer drivers installed. Uninstalled Razer drivers and solved the problem.
Check if you have Gamming Software + Setpoint installed. Uninstall Setpoint and solve the problem (hopefully).

I uninstalled SetPoint before I installed the software for my G400.
I have a fairly decent PC myself:
- Windows 7 Ultimate, SP1
–  CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (at 3601 MHz)
–  Memory usage: 2447/8110 MB (30%)
–  Graphics: nVidia GeForce GTX 560 (1920x1080x32bit 120Hz)
(Copied from IRC)

It's only in UT like you said, but I don't understand how that could be a software issue for the mouse etc (atm, I haven't got any installed), it'd surely happen on other games such as TF2 or even on my desktop if that's the case?

@ TC
Tried different DPI's and hz, different reso & DI makes 0 difference.

I have SetPoint, LGS and Razer driver software all installed with no issues to speak of.
Serenity, install a fresh copy of UT in a separate directory (as to not bother your real install) and see if the same problem persists.
