Some UT issues

Postby Shut » Sun Jan 20, 2013 6:58 am

Hello dudes,

First I think a little introduction is more appropriate !

I'm Corentin from Belguim, 21 yo studying Biology @ uni..
I'm also playing poker @ pokerstars so guys let me know, and we could do some tournie together, i often play with pun!

So back to UT now,

The first prob, is that I have a lots of frame drop, it's not unplayable but really annoying (AND every time someone connects or disconnects to the server i have those), i have a good computer (Asus laptop G60JX gforce gts360M 4go RAM i5, i'm not playing on my laptop screen but on a 24" screen @ 60hz and i'm running @ 60fps) so i dont think it's the problem.

I use the chicken's UT but with the ini i used 2years ago... here they are : http://www.sendspace.com/file/pujygp so if someone could take a look and tell me what's wrong would be cool :)

The second prob is the ? lag ? It often happens that i'm already fireing on someone and see the shockbeam on him but then he fires and kill me :/ or then i dodge to escape from a guy but he still kill me through wall, i know the problem must be on my side... i'm playing with 15K netspeed and i have a pretty good connection.

The third problem is about the ip2 on ipug, i'm always getting disconnected every 5 min there, i don't know what's about....

So that's all (it's enough i guess...), thanks for keeping this great game alive, the newnet code is really awesome!

And sorry for my english ;)

One problem at a time.
Rename ur unrealtournament .ini and use the ini that came with chickens.
Change your controls, match up your frameratelimit to your monitor, and play.

If you could start working on the bending space and time thing, that would be great. Oh, could you also get those TPS reports to me by next Tuesday. Wonderful. Thanks. :D

Have you tried OpenGL/D3D8/D3D9? On my old PC, D3D9 ran better but on my new one, OpenGL is pretty snazzy.

In UnrealTournament.ini, search for every instance of "Precache" or "UsePrecache" and set them to "True".

Pardon my ignorance, but what is "chickens unreal tournament"?

I'm picturing chickens running around with guns, or this...

That chicken ss is pretty hilarious but this is the chicken UT that people refer to: http://www.prounreal.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=80974

For your frame dropping, I would recommend the following:
-Get the unrealtournament.exe from the latest UT chicken edition and replace yours with it. Then run that unrealtournament.exe in Windows XP SP2 Compatibility mode. The reason for this is that earlier versions of chicken's UT had what was basically a patched ut.exe can cause frame drops (I had the same problem at one point).

-Get the latest drivers for your gfx card. I know the old drivers for my GTX580 caused problems for me.

-In your gfx card settings for Unreal Tournament, set maximum pre-rendered frames to 0 or 1 (whatever the lowest setting allowed is, depending on your drivers).

For your lag problem, if the above fixes don't also help that, the only odd thing I noticed in your ini was this:
[IpDrv.TcpNetDriver]
KeepAliveTime=0

KeepAliveTime is set by default to 0.2- In my experimentation, I've noticed that when I use 15000 netspeed, I like to have KeepAliveTime at 0.2. However, I also like using 25000 netspeed with KeepAliveTime set at 0.0. In any case, try setting your KeepAliveTime to the default 0.2, or play around with it and try raising your netspeed.

Disconnecting on ip2 sounds like an ACE problem. Try deleting all of the ACE files from your ut system folder, and then joining the server and re-downloading them.

Since everyone post their prob ill say mine 2 ..

I play with d3d9 and my refresh was set to 0 and frame limitte 140 .. It run fine tbh .

But i saw that normaly i should use the same refresh rate and framelimite , so i put both at 70 .. holycrap ut run like a pregnang cow trying to walk ..

i tried some others setting but the best way is refreshrate=0 maxframelimit=140 ... lawl ?

Anyone can help me on that :D

Try +2 of refresh rate. That usually helps for me.

Hi guys,

Well it was working fine(i mean shots were registering fine but still had framedrops) until my father install win8 64 on my comp... No it's playble no framedrops but shots are like not registering anymore... I can see my fire getting on someone but doing nothing then the guy immediatly shot and kill me :/ that's so annoying to have had really good aim and then beeing owned everywhere every map...

I just re-installed UT (chicken's version once again) using some random inis they look smooth but for non-reg shots it changes nothing.
Also it looks like my comp can't handle opengl when i try it i got a message like "UT is not responding waiting....."

Thanks every one who help me but it's not sorted out x)

Haven't fiddled with Win8 personally but I've heard some horrible/terrible/awful things about it. A few of the guys around here have gotten UT working on it, though. Not sure why no one has posted.
