UT performance online?

Im not sure what it is, i notice a drastic downgrade of the game online in both reg and nn. When i test offline my game is smooth as it ever was. When i get on servers its another story, i cant find any pl, my ping is always under 50 and my frame rates never move from the cap at 120, matching my refresh rate. Yet its just super choopy all the time. Seems to be even worse after warm up is over? Is there something running on the server that needs options changed in my inis or something?

I like it when my frame rate is a tad higher than my refresh rate but otherwise I know exactly how you feel.

Tried a bunch of other setting, d3d10, 9 and opengl. Seems like its always the same problem. I dont remember all the server feeling so bad across reg and newnet.

mintek, im in quebec too, near u.. and i have this problem since a damn while. i can almost count the damn frames when i use trans. but sometimes, after no changes at all, it become fluid for a week or two... sometimes only a few days. Right now, my connection is great!!! i think there is nothing to do about it. not sure....

Try toggling highperftoggle- It should be on if you have a new CPU, but you can play around with it.

If that doesn't help, you can mess with your netspeed and vid card driver settings. Generally I think you want a netspeed of 15000 or higher for modern servs.

I use the following settings in my nvidia drivers (got them from rootsoft):

Maximum pre-rendered frames on 1 or 0
Phys-X device specifically set to my graphics card
Single display performance mode

I had major problems with online play before.. netspeed tweaking improved it a bunch and if you have a 120hz refresh rate, set your fps to 125. Highperftoggle as well if you have a good machine. My online runs as buttery smooth as my offline nowadays.

There's also the "mutate ace compattoggle" command. I'm not sure what the difference is though. I'd try all 4 combinations of highperf/compattoggle on/off and see if you notice any difference. Remember to reconnect after each change.

You can also try this:
- Download cpu-z (http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html)
- Determine your exact CPU speed in MHz
- Right click on your UT shortcut and click properties
- Under the target field, make it look something like C:\UnrealTournament\System\UnrealTournament.exe -CPUSPEED=2294

If none of that does it, it's probably some bottleneck with your video card. Try messing with its settings to force consistency.

I tried alot of things doesent seems to fix it. Its really only in UT online sadly. I can play bf3 on ultra with more reliable performance, thats pretty annoying lol.

Yeah just pugged with the cpu speed and some different ace setting both maps. Still super choppy and my shot just goes inside players standing still.

if its like me, its not ur settings. the only way i found to make it a bit better is to clean my caches every time i play.

Been almost 3 year with the same computer now, no trouble from other games as far as i can tell.

Diff the first part fixed it for warm up, ill have to pug to be sure since it always got worse once warm up ended. But so far running around and shooting in warm up is as smooth as offline. keepalivetime=0.0 and 25000 netspeed seems to be doing good togheter.

For me and a few other people, setting keepalivetime to 0 made it so we have to manually disconnect between map changes, otherwise we can't rejoin the server.

Some of the tips really helped me out, my ut is better now. Not perfect but I see clearly a difference online now.

ok then, if mintek can fix it maybe i can too. my ut is perfect when its not online, its really fast and fluid. when i connect to a server, in the first 2 or 3 second (before ace load) it is fluid, its perfect. but after ace load, ut become really really choppy.... i can almost count the fps when i use trans.

i tried everything this in this topic. nothing to do. i tried multiple settings with fore highperf.... bnonstrictcap...keepalive is at 0...its not better. im sure it has something to do with ace... some ideas?

ok, i think i tried everything. i noticed that when i join a server, in the 2 or 3 seconds before ace load, it feels great. during and after ace loading, it become shit. i tried to change compatToggle, hiperf, keepalive is at 0, netspeed is at 15000.....when i play in practice cession, its perfect. its not a computer performances problem. its only online. is it bad routing? how can i verify?

I think ACE severely limits what you can do in-game if it detects an unknown package or texture or something. Try getting a 100% fresh copy of UT and reinstall.

I think it should be a forced requirement to use 20000 netspeed at this point with newnet. Even with 20000 + newnet + 10/10 + instagib, you will most of the time be hitting 20000 bytes a second. Also have noticed on uK's server with 12 people, I will non-stop warp now that they have increased the tickrate to 100. Is there really no way to increase server netspeed cap past 20000, maybe to 25000?
