Create a separate sub topic for birthdays. I rarely checked general discussion, and now that I checked, I was reminded of why I don't check it often...it's just a bunch of birthday wishes...that's cool and all, but don't post it in the general topic area.

Just bookmark search.php?search_id=unreadposts. Read what you want, ignore the rest.
