GlobalUnreal's First Annual Mapping Competition!

feels like we're leading the lambs to slaughter by not explaining what this community values in a map. we typically play 3 attack, 2 defense (though this can be more like 3.5 defense in tournament scenarios..). we've been trying to include maps that reward lots of consistent offensive pressure (commandCE, pryxon, complex, rune), or maps that require teamplay such as covering your flag carrier, communication, etc (broken limits, klondike, dreary, diamondsword). Maps that are easy to defend are generally removed from the map list (coret, bleak, orbital, scandinavium). Basically, I'd suggest posting your layouts early to get some feedback. Maybe you have a really good sense of what will work, though, and want to stun the judges with a finished product. fair warning, though. we're very picky, because we play these maps a lot.

I bet one of us will post an amazing map that unoriginal and new, but once it goes into voting, i bet 100% bet, that one of the judges will say " Its not like duku " just saying...

Thanks to a very generous donation we have managed to raise the following amount within two days!

That would mean that you would be able to win these amounts with your mapmaking hobby!

So if you haven't already done so... time to notify your mapping buddies!!!

Hey GEx,

We don't play maps like w00tabulus because it doesn't provide much of an interesting dynamic. The maps that the community is looking for are going usually going to have a few characteristics such as 10-15 seconds of travel distance between flags. They will usually have many ways in and many ways out. I would recommend looking at a video made by Kud that could help explain some of the thought behind the maps that would make good CTF games:

If you are looking for more direction, I would recommend spectating some of the pickup games in #ipug, or better yet, perhaps playing a few games to familiarize yourself with game type!

OK then, guess I'll work on something not w00tabulous-like (I have 2 W00t WIPs atm). Darnit  .

It would definitely help any mapmakers who are unfamiliar with GU pugs/leagues (high level iCTF) to hop into teamspeak while spectating a pug so you can get a better feel for how we expect things to flow!

CTF-Sepsis-GU, might take longer than 6 weeks as I don't get much time in UED..

Thought it would be a good idea to dedicate something to our GU team here.

If I don't get it in time for the competition, I will certainly submit it generally.

Generally speaking, better maps are played more..so to an extent, the number of plays a map receives could indicate its overall popularity.

I may submit a map for this, though UED is an incredibly annoying editor to work with!

*bump* I've updated the total amounts.

@Morph I would keep a list of all the generous people who donated - but I'm not sure they would be comfortable with everybody knowing that they donated. So naturally I refrained from doing that.
