The problem is the same reason they had to make the saDM tourney invite-only. There are only so many servers, so you either have to make it invite-only or have the tourney take a very long time, spread over days.

Also, I don't think it's a great idea to run an insta 1v1 tourney right after the sniper one. It's a lot of effort to run such a thing, and deal with noshowing players like ph34r did etc, and could get very chaotic trying to get all the matches played before ictf V started.

Thanks for your input guys!

I agree actually thinking about it again, lets do it towards the closing of iCTF.

I will probably do invite only and do it for 64 players (iCTF is more popular than saCTF), then the invite only can be based upon performance throughout the Season which suits it better I think, I appreciate that there are many tournaments going on and upcoming, just doing a filler tournament really to hopefully get loads more viewers in!

Why invitational if it's stretched over several weeks and matches can be played on any time during those weeks?

With 256 signups there would be 128 matches in the first week, with six servers thats around 21 matches per server. If a match takes an hour the first match week could be playing in 1 day. If evenly spread out during the full 7 days its around 18 matches per day, with six servers that could be done in 3 hours each day. 256 signups would be pretty hectic first week, and probably not much matches would be streamed but it should be doable.

I think 128 signups is more realistic though, probably even less. Could also create a 'free agent' group from the people that signup after the target has been reached for drop-outs.

Also, f.e. last KOTR was interesting to follow because some fairly unknown/low ranked players managed to advance over others. Guys/girls who wouldn't have received an invitation.

15 min idm zzzzz 10 min 30 frags is better imo

and dont make it invitational lol will only push more people away from the game.

Aim high because this has potential.

Definitely after iCTF

First of all: props Ramdrop for brigning the idea forward. It's great to see people stepping up!

As for the idea itself - love it, just think timing wise would be better after iCTF.

Also personally I think this one should not be invitational, if amount of signups exceeds expectations can play it on multiple sundays for example.

Personally I don't think this is a very 'watchable' mod, streams not that interesting for 1v1 with no powerup control.

Regardless, bear in mind that the largest previous tournament we ran on GU had 123 matches. It took 11 weeks.

You will have games equal to the number of entrants minus 1 (128 entrants = 127 games). Don't underestimate the enormity of running and administrating a huge 1v1 tournament

I agree, it would be difficult to run and appreciate that there are going to be a lot of matches.. not sure how popular the mod actually would be and who would like to play it which is why I've set a high number.

I guess it could be done on a first come, first play basis with backups in case players dropped and assuming we do 1 match per week, we're looking at 6, potentially 7 weeks, so definitely not a quick tournament.
