Pug Rule Improvements

A few suggestions have been made and are seemingly highly supported throughout the community, yet no effort by admins has been made to implement or even test out these suggestions. By all logic, these suggestions would vastly improve the quality and quantity of pugs in #ipug.

1) Limit nomics to either 1 or 2 per pug. I feel 1 is sufficient, but 2 could be implemented for a sense of "fairness" (even though it is usually a lower tier player that is nomic). Very easy to implement and very easy to enforce. There are only a select few who regularly nomic, so it would not impact the majority of the community, and for those few, it retains their ability to pug.

2) Decrease the click-in time to 5 or 7 minutes and strictly enforce this rule with a 24h ban. Server query and screenshot is sufficient evidence for the ban, so it is easily enforced (unlike chasing) and once people get the clue that it is strictly enforced, they will shape up. Add a rule that captains must choose the map by 5 minutes or a little earlier so the map is ready and everyone can click in by the enforced time.

3) This one is a little more questionable but is easily implemented as well. 1 map pugs. Same rules as above, but just 1 map. Many people enjoy TDM pugs because they are quick and easy. If there is a quick and easy iCTF pug option, it will most definitely be utilized. No harm in testing it out, either.

All of these options were discussed in other threads and all of them were seemingly ignored by admins. There's no good reason for this. Every one of these can be implemented in a matter of 5 minutes. Why not aim to improve the quality of pugging?

I'll start from the bottom up because they are easier to discuss that way

3) This is easy to implement. Add a new gametime called ictf1 (1 for one map, get it?). As for map picks, I don't think voting will work because people are pretty polarized. I would say people can vote on it, but I would also have a function in the bot where it can spit out one map randomly from 5-6. You can have a map cycle of Duku/Rune/Pryxon/Command/Klondike/Complex and just let people do that.

2) 24 hours is too harsh. I think a lot of people hang out in IRC waiting for the pug to get going knowing there will be at least 1 or 2 who will be late, so why the rush. I wouldn't mind testing out 7 minutes and seeing how that goes. To be honest though, I feel like 10 minutes would work if it was axtually enforced. We should probably try to enforce the original 10 minutes before bringing it down to be stricter.

1) Too difficult to enforce and sometimes shit happens. I'd be happy with people strictly tagging their mic status. Maybe you can make it so that if you add, instead of just typign .j ictf, you have to type .j ictf mic or .j ictf nomic

The time should be measured from when picking is complete. That being said, I am not ok with waiting 10min for people to join the server and click in. I would settle for a 7 min rule but in all reality a 5 min rule is possible and would be better for everyone.

1) not a fan of this rule. i prefer to just let people play however they want

2) 5 minutes sounds fine to me. Maybe set it at 7 minutes for a week before bringing it down to 5. A time warning from the bot after team selection should be all the warning someone needs

3) I've always been in favour of 1 map pugs. I'd be fine with imp's suggestion of a diff game type. idk how map selection would work, maybe the bot randomly chooses which team gets map selection. Or people can vote in irc with a .vote map command. or a random map as imp suggested. idc, shoot da gunz.

How is it a public server if people pick teams and follow the same rules?

oh d3r.

Only thing I can say 100% is that it should be 5-7 minutes with a ban hammer present. Some people have lives, responsibilities and schedules.

If you do decide to join a pug that is 2/10 and go afk, put it in your name. Perhaps names with brb or afk in them should automatically be taken out when it fills ?

as far as 1 map pugs, make the bot randomly pick the map. You join knowing it will either be duku, command, sprinta, or klondike, for example. seems ez.

IMO I think we should consider not banning people from #ipug if they show up late. However, I agree with banning from pugging for 24hr or whatever time is suitable instead. I don't know if it is possible but I think it is smarter to ban someone from the pugging aspect of the channel for being late to a pug rather than banning from the channel and seizing all communications with the majority of the community. More idler's the better and it would still give the options to chat and message others to play 1v1s and such as opposed to being banned and completely cutting people off from this already small community. Say what you want, but no one actually knows the reasons someone is late and I think cutting out their ability to pug would be most effective and beneficial.

Ban from pugging is fine of course. Bans from pugs instead of the channel for pug related offenses is the obvious choice.

If they aren't banned from the channel they will find a way to get into pugs other ways completely negating the ban. Why are we trying to be so soft? It's just a 24hr ban.

Not true at all IR. If the pugbot was able to block their IP or something from pugging I don't think they would. I wouldn't. If they do find a way around and pug than lay down a massive ban. If someone was banned from pugging and managed to find a way to pug it wouldn't take long for it to be noticed.
