This is a petition to remove faster weapon switch speed from NewNet, or at least have a specific standard weapon switch speed version of CTF to select from map vote.

If you support having traditional weapon switching for NewNet CTF, please reply to this thread.

It should just be a server side option and thats it, no reason not to have the options, it hurts nobody. Hell i believe any modification to the guns themselves should also be something server owner can check on or off. Check off new sniper speed, damage, etc. Same for ammo counts. So any league that wants to use newnet can do so in the setting they feel is appropriate. Its not like UT would be the only game that changes some of its rules per gametypes.

Or Timtim could just open source it and not be a scumbag.

Yeah, assuming that this fast weapon switch setting is something other than a latency related change, I think that it should be optional whether to enable it or not. Unless some valid technical reason can be given as to why it is too difficult to add that option. 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)

Paco, we have tried various weapon speeds. FWS and mid-range speeds (long before newnet was even in development). Every time, we resort back to the original weapon speed for a wide number of reasons (which has been covered in detail in other posts). With everyone having 0 ping in NewNet, the game speed is already increased on that alone. Increasing the weapon switch speed makes the game even FASTER. The overall pace of the game has become too fast and chaotic (random, see #speedpug).

This is thread for those wanting regular weapon switch speed. The VAST majority of the competitive CTF community wants standard, league ready weapon speed settings. I'm trying to get them to this forum to voice their opinion.

seems like a decent option if it'll satisfy an appreciable amount of people.

there's no denying newnet changes the pace of the game. I mean, the mere existence of the mod speaks to the affect that lag has on balance. config variable weapon speeds seems like a fair compromise if it satisfies the vanguard of a competitive, active league. I guess we'll see what the response is from those people. mintek, shatt, sorn, khem, sly, jay, kappa, rico, even ir and biz is a fair cross section of that community, but there's still plenty of people to speak up.

the major consensus of the american weapons ctf community is for the weapon switch speed to be normal

I personally don't give a fuck, I'll play with fws or normal speed. If the weapon switch speed brings over more top tier players then switch it to that. However, switch speed based on arbitrary weapon animations is outdated. If its brought to "default" make it the same weapon to weapon.

Thats exactly what is being asked for detox, every gun needs a default switch speed and it needs to be slower then it currently is, and to match the reg trans in/out speed, that one is by far the most problematic. The old switchspeed only had a few flaws, flak and minigun, everything else was pretty consistant in animations. Currently newnet switch is faster then any of the gun switch speed before as far as i can tell. Just make every gun have their default setting switch speed and make flak/minigun identical to the pulse speed and you fix the outdated problem. Or make a single default switch speed across all guns, the problem is that people will feel off when using say their shock rifle and the speed is different.

Best solution is to have FWS mode and CTF mode.

Timtim is too stubborn, will never happen. The only chance we have is if he open source's this shit.
