Ive always felt as if nn flag grabbing and touching is different than reg. Probly untrue but ive been too lazy to test it in practice vs nn.

ggs

unfortunately I didnt play command, which is one of my favourite maps :/

@sauron, i often think im grabbing the flag (when i run right trough it) but after 10 secs I realize I actualy didnt. Doesnt happen on zp for me. But I think its just for me cause of the american servers i mean the ping does affect the grabbing, doesnt it?

Tbfh, ive actually played nn with 25 ping (eu pug) i get alot more frags and it feels alot faster when ur beam comes out and hit a target. Well overall it feels better with low ping. Its the truth, low ping > high ping even with nn, but yes without nn it wasnt even possible to have this match in the first place. So its not i wanna talk about nn in a bad way, ever.

the beam comes out with the same delay regardless of ping. the time delay between shooting a player and seeing them die depends mostly on your ping

afaik with the old style netcode the server had to respond to allow you to move when you requested it, making it feel all fucked up and muddy. newnet is clientside so it always feels smooth regardless of ping (may not be true with lots of ping jitter?). your movement is "ahead" on your screen compared to what others are seeing at the exact same point in time because of the time it takes to send the info to the server and other players (depends on pings). you run over a flag, you send to the server that you ran over it. if someone shoots you before you run over it you won't know because of pings, but the server knows who did it first by calculating what point in time it happened, so instead of telling everyone you ran over it, it instead tells everyone you died. what appears as a disadvantage is not a disadvantage at all but fairness being dealt due to having to deal with clientside movement

the reality is that theres probably very little difference between 40 and 140 ping in terms of advantage. in fact, it may be advantageous to have a higher ping depending on how it was coded to deal with ping fluctuations etc., but i won't go there without seeing the sourcecode :p

should probably say in most cases there probably won't even need to be a comparison because they don't arrive at nearly the same time to be compared at the same tick, but the point is that even though with lower ping it gets there faster, the person with higher ping can potentially see things faster (i.e. around corners) because of the clientside movement but because it takes longer to get to the server to register its fair. but ya tim needs to confirm, that makes sense to me though

I had a UK server yeah, but I also pay out of my pocket for 3 servers in iPug atm. Not exactly looking to add another one to the amount that I already spend monthly :P

Paying for an eu server isnt an issue;p

The problems it would cause in everyday pugging and regular league play would be too much and would tear things apart more so.
NY is pretty central for all and offers the best pings..unfortunately it cant be perfect for everyone, but its more than playable for the vast majority

Probably could be a split server for an all star game next time..if its to be equal

Pstar has plenty of decent players too, If they would rather play there thats completely up to them.. Can't please everybody but we will always try and do the best thing for the majority

As long as I'm not forced to play on that awful ATL server in a league match, I'm happy. NYC only.

Spydee's description is correct. There are a couple of extra "gotchas" that spydee isn't aware of since he hasn't looked at the source, but yes, correct on all parts. I have a feeling though that people will skip over spydee's description or fail to understand it again, because I've given the same description multiple times before. It's pretty annoying to repeat lol... but at least spydee and IR get it!

Thanks spydee!
Timtim: Maybe you explained it x-times but that doesnt mean that i / morph have read / memorized it in such a concrete explanation. Would have been more friendly to post an existing thread about some some basics of its netplay (if it exists).
